Without thinking, I began to pull the delicate petals from the bright center and throw them into the light wind. After many minutes, I looked up at her. Her face had grown tired and pale; chemotherapy had done it’s number on her. She had decided a month ago that the treatment was too painful, and, if she was going to die anyway, there was really no point to it. We had begged her to keep fighting, we didn’t want to lose her yet. But she was as stubborn as a bull. We realized that all she really wanted was to leave us in peace. At home.
In the end, we knew it was best.
